Smoked Turkey
If you’ve never smoked a turkey, this is well worth the waiting time! Be the hero this Thanksgiving with this delicious recipe!
This recipe calls for a (thawed) 10 pound bird. Yours may weigh more or less, which is perfectly fine! Just be sure to go off of the meat’s internal temperature and not time. This will prevent under and overcooking, leaving you with a juicy, perfectly cooked bird!
Preheating the Smoker:
Using applewood, let’s start by preheating our smoker to 225 degrees F.
Prepping the turkey:
We want to rinse the inside and outside of the turkey in cool water. Pat it dry with some paper towels and place it in a disposable aluminum pan.
Now it’s time to season that bird! Grab the bottle of Bo B Q Chicken Rub and shake that amazing stuff liberally onto the outside and inside of the bird. Let’s move on to stuffing!
Stuffing:
Cut and chop 1 yellow onion and 1 Granny Smith (green) apple. Place in a bowl with 1/2 cup of unsalted stick butter (cut into cubes). Mix well and place the mixture in the cavity. Next, pour one 16oz bottle of cola into the cavity.
Smoking:
We want to loosely cover in foil so smoke can still easily enter (We typically just attach the foil at the corners). Now she is ready for the smoker!
Smoke the turkey until the thighs reach an internal temperature of 165 F (about 8-10 hours) basting every hour with the juices in the pan. Remove from heat. Rest under foil for 10 minutes and carve!
